By Chief Jack Law III
January 15, 2018

Monday morning the company was dispatched with MICU 46 to Gallagherville Road and Marshallton -Thorndale Road for the auto accident, Rescue 39 arrived to find nothing in that intersection and proceeded north to find the accident at Boulder Drive and Marshallton - Thorndale Road. Assistant 39 reported two vehicles blocking with heavy damage and one patient to be extricated, the Rescue crew and Chief 39 began door removal to allow access for patient assessment and removal. The crew from Engine 39-1 assisted with extrication and provided fire protection. A second MICU from 46 was requested for the additional patient in the second vehicle. Station 38 Fire Police assisted with closing the road at Hazlewood Ave and Marshallton Thorndale Road. Units cleared after assisting PSPE and the tow company.

While the company was at this accident scene, we had placed several road flares and a vehicle at numerous locations to protect our responders and the general motorists from additional hazards at the scene. During this time several vehicles ignored the road closures and drove around them into oncoming traffic, creating an additional hazard for our responders as well as themselves. Please pay attention to any road closures and either detour or turn around when you come upon these situations, so that we all can go home safely.

Units: Rescue 39, Engine 39-1

Mutual Aid: MICU 46-2, MICU 46-3, Traffic 38, PSPE
